Unlocking the business potential of a custom sportswear firm with an end-to-end software application

There must be a better way

It takes bravery and a desire to be original to accept the challenge of improving the foundations of your business. But borne of the frustration that their ambitions were being undermined by outdated software that’s just what leading custom sportswear company Scimitar did.

Driven to do better, they embarked on the journey to transform their business, researching off-the-shelf applications, auditioning potential replacements and educating themselves on the possibilities that technology can bring. It soon became clear that custom development was the best fit to meet their challenges head on. This is when our respective paths crossed.

Putting ourselves in our clients’ shoes to identify obstacles to growth

We focus on people, not technology and use human-centred design thinking to do this - putting ourselves in our client’s shoes.

We quickly grasped that the team at Scimitar were working really hard to compensate for failings in two systems that formed the backbone of the Company’s infrastructure.

Our conversations turned to how we could replace both of these incumbent systems and how we could minimise disruption to stakeholders whilst implementing it. At a critical time in business growth these are genuine concerns.

With the business at risk from its current technology and our initial research & fact-finding done, Scimitar backed our vision that a bespoke system was the way to go.

Searching for game-changers

With the project green lit, we focussed on how obstacles to Scimitar’s business growth could be removed.

We investigated and pulled apart the entire Company infrastructure. Company ideas, long abandoned as being infeasible, were back on the table along with a host of new ideas that new technology enabled. And employing our ‘what if ’ ethos, several aspects of outdated company dogma were jettisoned.

This was exciting part of the process for us and the team at Scimitar. It also cemented a strong relationship and mutual understanding. This, in turn, bred empathy and trust - cornerstones of successful custom development.

Understanding the intricacies and broader aspirations of Scimitar’s business enabled us to put forward appropriate recommendations in the form of wireframes and specifications.


Delivering digital invention

The joy of custom software development is the limitless opportunities to deliver exactly what is needed.

In this case, we delivered Scimitar a ground-breaking end-to-end software application with a broad spectrum of functionality.

The application has elements of a CRM, ERP, order processing and logistical and manufacturing planning but it is a unique amalgam tailored to Scimitar’s business and end user needs.

Continuing to break boundaries

The application now forms the backbone of the business and has given it an agility that was never previously possible. It has also become a cornerstone of plans to scale up the business and meet ambitious growth targets head-on.

We enjoy a close relationship that breeds collaboration and we regularly meet to discuss successes and areas for improvement (we are strong advocates of continuous improvement doctrine).

The team at Scimitar have been a joy to work with and it has been great to partner with like-minds committed to breaking the mould and tackling challenges head-on. We can’t wait to see where the adventure takes us next.

We are currently in the throes of implementing the new system across the whole business. Although it’s early days, it is already clear that the software is bringing significant benefits in terms of streamlined processes, greater efficiency and better communication with customers.
